The 20th century gave us only two. Gandi and Mandela. I am unsure about the Dali Lama. He has not changed the world, but his presence, rational persona, and powers of persuasion for what is right has kept China scared to death for many years. Maybe his accomplishments are in what has not changed for the worse.

(it was the 19th century that gave Gandhi, and e.g. Albert Schweizer. The 20th gave Mandela, plus Mother Teresa, plus Martin Luther King)
Gandhi lived well into the 20th century. ( 1948) He was a man of the 20th century. I am not sure I would put King quite on that level. History will show. I don't know enough about Mother Teresa.
I would not put Mother Teresa in the same league as Nelson Mandela or Martin Luther King.

Nelson Mandela understood that all life is one with the universe. He will be missed and remembered for the ages. He was truly one of the Great Ones in our presence that made a difference in the world for yesterday, today and tomorrow. May his soul RIP and his spirit forever be in with us.

Mandela was imprisoned for 156 counts of terrorism of which murder via bombings was promenent, he headed the terrorist wing of the ANC. As "president" he bought a slew of new weaponry and cozied up to the local Tyrants within Africa...........................The man was no saint by any stretch, this idolizing of Mandela needs to be tempered by the facts of the mans life.

Nelson Mandela was convicted of terrorism by a murderous, extremely repressive, terrorist regime which killed thousands of unarmed, innocent people over decades.
To anybody who is not deeply racist and/or fascist he was a freedom fighter.
To anybody neutral he was a symbolic political leader. And political leaders are no saints. Judging by the social state SA now is he did not perform greatly. Still regaining the right of running your own home to your own standards its fundamentally right no matter what you achieve.
