I'm trying to repair a Weller EC1002 (not EC1002S) soldering station, but cannot seem to find a schematic for the control board. All I've found so far is this: http://bama.edebris.com/manuals/weller/ but it is of no use because they only show the EC1002S and even then, the manual does not have any schematics.
The station that I have is brand new (has only soldered maybe 3 joints) but has stopped getting hot. The fuse is good, the LED lights up, but the iron will not heat up. There is nothing burned on the PC board or anywhere else inside the case. The hand piece cord is perfect (on the outside, anyway). Anyone have any clues?

If it is brand new, didn;t it come with a warranty? Do you still have all the little cards and stuff that came with it to tell you how and where to get warranty service? You generally don;t have to register your unit for warranty coverage, but you will need "proof of purchase" which means a copy of the sales invoice.
And the place that sold it to you might even just exchange it, and then THEY can deal with returning it to Weller.
You can also CALL Weller and ask if the schematic is available, they will probably send it to you.
As to troubleshooting it, it is a soldering iron. Some sort of low voltage current is sent to the iron from the base unit. Is anything present on the connector then? Look at the connector itself where the iron plugs into the base unit. ANy of the connector pins pushed back from their proper position - look at both male and female pins - iron and base unit connectors.. And on the hand piece, the heater itself will have continuity or not.
When something burns up, it is apparent to the eye. But the fact that the cord LOOKS good means nothing. It could of course be some sort of sensor glitch, but more likely it is just a failed connection or an open heater or something.

Thanks for your response Enzo. Unforturnately, the iron, although new, is old. That is to say, it is NOS (new old stock) so the warranty is long gone. It's been in storage since new and has just recently been put into service. Regardless, I posted before doing more thorough testing. Turns out the heater element is bad (open). Just goes to show that just because something is new, doesn't mean it's good!
