For some reason just out of the blue my car speakers started popping and lagging really bad while listening to music. They used to work fine but one day for no reason started doing this.
I have tried running new speaker wire throughout, different speakers, changing earths and new power cables but nothing seems to stop the horrible sounds.
Another thing is that it only does this whilst the car is actually running, but while it is off the speakers sound perfect.
They have been like this for some time now and i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice to solve this propblem.

Hook up the speakers inside your house. Or, try hooking speakers from your house to the amps in the car. I really hope that a trans, cap, etc. isn't blown 😡
The popping sound is most likely induced by the noisy electrical environment in your vehicle.
It might be caused by the ignition system among other things.

Or....DC offset by the charging system. Assuming everything is fine other than the audio system itself, perform the above test.
What you could do is measure for DC voltage with car off and with car on. If DC voltage jumps up then there is induction somewhere.
If you have an oscilloscope handy you can track the changes of the signal as it travels through the system. Anyway, plz report back, hopefully you have good news.

I've tried hooking up speakers to other amps, they work fine.

I dont have any amps, just 2 6x9's running straight off the head unit at the moment.
havent been able to get my hands on a multi-meter yet and and oscilliscope i have no idea where to get or how to use.
Ill try the multimeter tomorrow, and might go into the pioneer headquarters and ask there.
I also found that when my car (75 HJ Kingswood) had the choke out a bit and was rinning a bit cleaner the popping was much less though i don't really know why this would affect speakers at all.

trans was short for transformer, but I don't know why I said that could be blown...

Either your head unit is pooched or, there is a wire from the head unit's harness that is making contact with chasis, mount (ground). If not, get a new deck.

Could it be caused by a loose connection that is triggered by vibration from the engine?
Just a thought, but I would have thought that electrical noise would be there from the start, and wouldn't suddenly appear, except perhaps by a loose connection.
Of course, finding it may prove to be a problem.😀

Nah i've tried looking for loose cables and things like that..been through and rewired it all, made sure nothing is touching any metal parts of the cars chassis.
I am going to take it back to pioneer today, and see what they can do....Lucky i kept my docket 🙂
