Need help deciding on a head

Hey everybody, I'm building a 4x12 cabinet with 4- 8 ohm Celestion G12t-100 "hot 100" speakers. I'm doing a series-parallel wiring job. (if that makes a difference) I am going to buy a head versus build it. What sort of thing should I buy for this large cabinet? Any comments would be appreciated.

Asking what amp to buy is like asking what I should order for dinner. Depends upon what you like.

What kind of music will you play? Obviously if you play country your needs are different from a death metal band.

If you want Hendrixy tones, then a Marshall is worth checking out. Super clean? Think large Fender or even a solid state amp. What sort of tone are you chasing?

My music varies a fair amount; from stuff like Jimi and Queen, Van Halen, Nirvana; to newer stuff like Nickelback and Three Doors Down. I have a fender combo right now which is not too bad. I think I'd like something with a little more punch and FX. I've looked at Marshalls, I'm just wondering if there are any other alternatives. I'd like something with plenty of clean and distortion if possible. What does a good amplifier entail anyhow? I know a fair amount about speakers and general electronics, but not a lot about valve state technology.
