Hi everyone
Have a very odd problem that's happened twice now
I need a powerful amp to run some dual 18 inch passive JTR subwoofers
I have had two amps blown with the same outcome.
Basically the first time power was cut to my place as a handy man turned off my power to install a dishwasher.
Once power came on the first amp (the sanway fp14000) turns on but make a loud buzzing sound. Amp won't play otherwise. I have attached a video showing this.
This amp was the only amp in my system I had running without surge protection in my system and due to the 14000 watt power it was running straight to the wall socket.
I assumed this amp was dead from a power surge and bought another Behringer 12000 from a friend out of warranty as he had one laying around.
I was still not having this protected so I proceeded to buy a Thor Alpha 1 surge protector with $100k connected appliance insurance
https://www.thortechnologies.com.au/product/thor-alpha-a1a/
Today I came back from a weekend away and I noticed all my equipment had tripped. I had to restart my other power sockets (I have ps audio p10 power plants and other heavy duty power supply)
Just tested the Behringer and once again it's blown and making the exact same sound. Basically the same as the sound in my attached video
I rang Thor and was told that it wasn't a surge that did this and there is some other issue, which makes sense, as it wasn't storming here and the Thor device has an alarm if the surge has been tripped and damaged and the unit is still allowing power to be sent to the amp.
I am pulling my hair out wondering how this can happen without a surge and with surge protection and am wondering what this could be? I don't want to buy another amp without identifying the issue first.
Does anyone have any insights into what is wrong here? Both also are getting power and making basically the same buzzing sound
Any advice (even if small ) may help me big time.
What does this odd sound indicate? Is it repairable?
Other amps I have blown never made this sound they just go dead.
It's worth mentioning I also blew a emotiva xpa gen 2 where one channel blew and simply went dead with no sound.
i assume I have major power issues in this rental I am if I have blown three amps in a year and a half. I don't understand though since everything has decent surge protection
Any advice would be great. Thank you
