Hi,
I want to build try do some test with 3d pinting speaker cabinets 🙂.
I like to try 2 types of setups:
First I would like to try buiding a sonos play 1 like speaker.
I don't have any speaker calculation experiance so I am looking for some Help.
I would like it to be the same 'size' as the Play one speaker and design a decent sounding speaker. Price Quality 🙂 not perfect!
I live in Europe so I would like to use speakers I can buy in Europe.
Main question is can you guys help me out with the design?
What do I have to look for?
Woofer / tweeter design?
Passive radiators?
Thx for helping!
Kind regards,
Digi

Start by reading the numerous Bluetooth/portable/boombox/Bose/Jawbone type threads fist. There is a lot of good info in there on suitable drivers, box volume, vents, passive radiators and amps to go with it.
You are not going to be able to recreate a Sonos Play 1 - at least not on any reasonable budget (<$200) and with any reasonable small volume. It is super engineered and uses special DSP, custom drivers, custom passive radiators, etc. You might get close 3d printing an enclosure, but that's about it. If you really like it, go buy it and spend your DIY efforts making something like a full range bookshelf speaker that it not portable or small. You will have much better chance of success. Not trying to be negative, but we have been down this path many times. The $M in R&D and engineering to make the Sonos, is not something you can pull off with simple a 3D printer. It's just one of those realities.
Sonos 1 teardown:

It is a 2 way, appears to be about a 4in woofer and a small 3/4in maybe 1in dome tweeter, a motherboard with class D amp and DSP/wifi stuff, and a case. This one does not have a passive radiator so bass extension is probably not as deep as Sonos 3.

It takes DSP to get a response like this with a 2L volume:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Hey,
Thanks for the reply!
I have a sonos Play one and I like it allot!
Any advice on driver / tweeter / radiator i can use?
Kind regards,
Also have Harman kardon sound sticks I also like the sound of them!
Maybe its simpeler to start with them.
I found a DSP project that looks quite easy to build.
