Alright, I'm just finishing off my amps/active xover, so I can now start thinking about my DAC project. I'm probably going to use AD1865N-Ks (already have them) and was thinking of using just one per channel or two paralleled per channel (would more be better, or would just one per channel do? I read a post by Elso-Kwak in the amp-chips DIY forum that paralleling two AD1865s smear the highs...). I'd like to have a tube output stage, I'm rather fond of the 6922 in other aplications, so I'd like to try it in my DAC. I'll probably be using a kwak-clock to run all the chips off of, but should I bother with PSUs for each chip? Trannies for each chip? I'm want to stick with LM317 regs, I'm not getting all fancy, don't want it to be too expensive. I'll probably use a CS8414 if I can find a place to buy them, is this a good choice? I see it used alot, but if there's something else I should use... Os or non-os? Any sujestions would be welcome, it's my first DAC project, I'd like it to be good enough so as to keep it and not build another (I'm not a super audiophile) but easy enough to build and not excessively expensive (don't get me wrong, I'm up for a challenge, but not like Peter's super DAC with 18 or so transformers...).
This is the most useful link I found so far: http://www.geocities.com/yury_g/dac.htm
I'm planning similar project as you so I'll be interested in your other findings as well. More info in my other thread: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5798&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

If you want to stick with three-terminal regs, you might as well use LT1085 over LM317. The noise is much better and the cost is not excessive.

Alright, how about using only one AD1865N-K per channel, so as not having to build multiple PSUs for each chip, and therefore being able to build better PSUs for the two used? Quality over quantity... LT1805 is probably a better idea and if I only use two chips might as well use them. As for non-os vs os, what's the analogue filter differences? I know with non-os you've got to have filters in the analogue stage, but not with os, correct? The output stage at the end of this site http://www.fortunecity.com/rivendell/xentar/1179/theory/vasfda/vasfda.html would be for an oversampling DAC, right? Well, if one were to build a non-os dac, all that would have to be changed would be the filters, correct? This is the main part that confuses me between oversampling and non-oversampling, one's done in the digital domain, the other in analogue, but where?
