Nakamichi oms-2 won't spin disk

I recently purchased a Nakamichi oms-2 that was supposed to work. It did not when I received it. I recapped most of the caps and scrapped off the conductive glue. The door opens and closes fine, the lights all work, but the disk does not spin. I unplugged the connector for the motor and was able to spin it with a 9 volt battery. I checked my power supply voltages and from what I can see all of the positive voltages seem reasonable. I cannot find a service manual for the unit. I found a Nak cdp-2 and oms-20 service manual that are close but not the same. Does anyone have any thoughts?

Hi longgun708,
Well, the OMS-20 manual will be close. That one is just for another market, but is the same basic machine.

I would check for focus lock (view from the side of the mechanism. The lens should go up and down a few times with no disk inserted. With a CD, you should see it come up and lock the distance between the lens and the CD surface. If the disc doesn't even spin, then it sounds like the tray switch isn't telling the uP that the drawer is in the home position. The head must come back to the center as well. Look for a slipping or broken belt, or something jamming the rack grear (on the head that engages with a circular gear). Of course, a dirty switch can also create this problem too.

Happy hunting (I use 7.62 MM, or 0.308 cal)

I have been cleaning and lightly lubing those areas for several days. The lens moves and it started turning. Yeah!! But the sound is garbled like when a radio station tries to disguise a song for some type of contest. If you knew how much time I've spent on this project youd be amazed.
