I have been given a NAD1155 pre amp and a 2200 power amp....
As far as sound goes, its kinda ok, but not as nice as my 4780 kit. I'm planning on using it for when I want LOUD music! Now the volume and balance are connected together with balance sitting inside volume knob.. When I turn volume I'm getting a horrible crackly sound.. If I fiddle a little it goes away, but I think the volume pot is faulty. I have got a few pots in my boxes but none have the balance as well.
Anyone know how i can do away with balance and keep it central and replace volume pot with a fresh one.

You would have to study the circuit but it will involve little more than fitting a couple of links or perhaps resistors in place of the removed pot.
If all is lost with the pot then nothing lost in removing it and seeing if it can be dismantled to clean it up and repair.

Hi,Ok.. i will see if i can get a picture of it posted
Have you noticed that the PCB is layout DIFFERENTLY from the schematics for the power supply regulation section?
The problem is around R611 trim pot (working here as a rheostat) that is not connected to Q601 collector , as it should be according this pre-amp schematic!
So, although NAD Electronics suggests calibrating the Q601 collector voltage in respect to ground by adjusting R611, in fact rotating R611 takes no result on this PCB board!
Of course that this is not the reason you mention when you say “When I turn volume I'm getting a horrible crackly sound”, but this must be the reason why many audiophiles report strange behavior for the volume settings of this pre-amp: Q601 collector should have a voltage of around +24 V, but in my pre-amp this raises to 27-28 Volt !
I’m trying to fix this, and would appreciate your suggestions.
