It's my new DAC builded on AD1851N-J DAC and DF1700 digital filter. This DAC has 4 SPDIF inputs and 1 I2S (TTL) input with 16.344MHz or 11.2896 MCLK output for CD transport synchronisation. The DAC uses ultra low jitter oscillator (typical jitter about 5-7 ps RMS) and reclock unit, which may work in 3 modes: SYNCHRONOUS, when used synchronous interface as I2S or synchronous SPDIF, ASYNCHRONOUS, when used SPDIF, or BYPASS.
Supported chips:
DAC: AD1851,AD1861,AD766,AD1856,PCM56,PCM61.
DF: PMD100, SM5813, DF1700, DF1704, DF1706(with 3.3V supply), SM5842 (only in 18 bit output mode )

They are mono DACs with supposedly classic R2R multibit topology, no built-in digital filtering, and current (I) out. The nomenclature AD1861 is similar to the highly-touted AD1862 (cousin). Yet I see almost no activity with this DAC in DIY or manuf. circles.
Not sure why it's unpopular given its AD/R2R "heritage" -- was it only recently put back into production?

Why no enthusiasm for this DAC when subpar new-old-stockers (TDA1387/1545A/1543) are touted? TDA1541A is fine, but the higher grades are way overpriced.
I bet if someone started a Kickstarter campaign -- call it "modern R2R multi-bit" -- made it pretty with nice layout on the PCB with that AD1861, marketed it right, it'd go "Pono".
I thought all MAJOR manufs. of audio DAC ICs went Delta-Sigma even before this. Since R2R/multibit seems popular in DIY (i.e., new-old-stock), the fact that the above AD is still in production -- but never paid any audiophile attn. to -- is strange.

Your concern is valid, even I am also surprised to see no mentioning of these R2R chips anywhere in DIY circles.
