Looks really amazing! I'm also in the phase of building up a music player PC. I'm very interested in your linear power supply. Could you share schematics. Which OS and SW are you using?

So that is no schematics
I use XP or Vista Lite for O.S. and play music wit Foobar
Next time will try Cplay & Jplay

That's pretty cool!
You can make a music server out of any PC.
I'm using Direttore (the demo) which runs on a lowly P2 machine. It puts the blends between songs as it plays. And it will run on WinME.
Direttore has a standard version (also free) but it must run on Win2K or above.
This is basically radio station software. You load your own mp3s.
Go to MixTime for more info.

my music server
Hi Pang,
Great piece of work. I am very interested in the modifications done to the motherboard if you could give some directions to follow... Plus what you use for electromagnetic shielding of chips + as you know by your silver esata cable 😛...
I just had built a minimalist music server by a Dutch friend using computeraudiophile CAPSv design. In addition i try to finalize with Paul Hynes the specifications for a linear power supply using a 400VA mains transformer (and an isolation transformer) with 4 separate rails, one for the MoBo, one for the internal SSD, one for the SOtM USB card and one hopefully for the RAM DDR2 (but still don't know how to do despite having the product sheet with power requirements and voltage 1.8V... if you have an idea). The PSU will use Zfoil resistors and silmic 2 caps, internal wiring for PSU and music server (power) is silver solid core in braided configuration, same for umbilical directly soldered to MoBo and USBcard, no connector on music server chassis, one Jaeger industrial connector on PSU. With separate rails i hope i can isolate the grounds of the various components. Areas of improvment is hence silver data cable, MoBo and USB card mods. May be some Bybee slipstream purifiers and Stillpoint ERS paper for later. I focus on the hardware side of things for the time being.

Actual modifications done to the motherboard depend on the PSU construction
But that is some rules
1.Separete Linar PSU for different Components as possible
2.Enhance Power environment to southbridge & ram & USB
3.Special quiet PSU for OS disk
Why use CF adpter for OS disk?
The main reason is because by comparison
I feel CF adpter sound better than SSD(MLC or SLC)
Small size CF & adpter is cheapper to SSD
SSD is more complex,Contains 2 clock & the cache
This will more affect the continuity of the data
CF adpter in addition to the relatively simple structure
CF adpter is easy to modify
Clock is important in digital system
These are Custom-made 0.3ppm TCXO
High speed inverter 74vhcu04 as a buffer for TCXO
With soshin silver MICA or any superior parts as you like
After modified,
CF adpter will sound much better than SLC or MLC SSD
I am also a recording engineer of live concert
That are some recording pieces on youtube

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
CF adapter & TCXO clock module
will fit to 2.5"HD fix position(But need 5cm heigh to place)
Operation volt. same as ssd
Could directly replace the ssd

Compatible with 3.5"HD fix position
Reserve space for additional regulated power supply
