My LCD project #1

[Negative Design]

Ok my project is running a lil slow. to all who've read my previous posts, you would know that i ordered and ARTOGRAPH, well they didnt deliver and i canceled the order. NOW, i need some suggestions on what to do.


I have a 5" Lcd TFT active matrix etc... and im stuck.
i dont have a projection lens since i was gonna use the optics from the artograph.
I have no idea where to start. Do you guys think i should RE-order the ARTOGRAPH?

any suggestions on what i should do with my setup would be helpful.

I for one would like to see you re order the Artograph as I have being following your posts with interest, like many on this board..... they read posts for months before delving into the DIY bit. So your results are of great interest to me so be a leader, pioneer.....whatever you'd like to call it. I think you'd get great results mate..... well I'm hoping you do.

Thanks 🙂 i think i will be ordering SOMEthing but im going to wait to see what the ppl think. I may be a "pioneer" but i dont want to be a loser, meaning the artograph MAY work but it wont be as bright as it should be and i will have to buy new bulbs, im thinking i can just buy an OHP and retrofit it. the artograph i ordered cost 105+15 shipping i can buy an OHP for 40$ im not eliminating the artograph idea but im not gonna rush into it like i did before.thanks for the reply.

I say retro fit an oph. What artograph were you trying to buy?

With an artograph, your lcd will not give a very good image, because it is a passive lcd, not a reflective. You will most likley atain a very washed out faded image... Now you say you are unsing a 5" lcd? Mabey ohp would not be the best solution... I say this becue the 5" lcd is alot smaller than the oph area. I think your best solution would be to use a delta IV lens and a: read up my modified backlight projeciton (verbose mustafa prject update tread) or b: use large loa backlights.

i was gonna use the DESIGNER artograph...they didnt ship it so i canlced i will take your advice and order an OHP.i hear delta 4 is for curve crt tvs so thats out, but IF i did buy the artograph i would of used the optics...im gonna thik this out i will make my decision this week thanks for your reply feel free to reply some more.

I used a delta and got a good picture, but ohp is easy.

kool. im getting a cheap OHP and retrofit it thanx 🙂
but if i get ohp i cant get ur LOAs....do u think LOAs cant be used to retrofit an OHP?

No. The best thing to do is use metal halide. There was a post here on a guy who did a ywh like mod on his ohp and it worked nice.

yea ROLM did it, but its pricey... i have a Q about the 100 inh tv thing u said it worked fine for u? how did u place the delta4 lens on a tv? i thought it cant project anything higher than 5" lcd or am i wrong...
