After lurking around for over a week, I read and listened to you guys and I've learned a lot. Just moments ago, I won the bid on a BENQ FP567S 15" LCD Monitor on eBay.
Resolution(max.) 1024 x 768
Color 16.7 million
Contrast 400:1
Brightness 250 cd/m2
Response Time 16 ms
Based on what I've picked up on the forum, this is a pretty good deal for $250.50 which includes shipping.
I went to a computer show today and was big time disappointed in the pricing...sky high for crap.
Thanks for ALL of your help. I'll keep you posted on my progress. My friends and neighbors are all laughing at me now, but with your help, I'll show them.

Bad first step
My first step has turned into a bust. I got my BenQ FP567s the other day from my Ebay purchase... and it won't work. All I get is a blank (white) screen with very pale blue vertical lines.
Supposedly brand new "in the box". Any suggestions would be welcomed. This was my weekend to put all of the pieces together and watch my first movie.

Darn man sorry to hear that, thats rude when that happends, try to contact the seller and tell him the situation and get your money back, if he wont reply get in contact with ebay and if u paid paypal get your money back through them but they only give u 30days in paypal to get your cash back, not sure when u purcheshed it but they would be your best bet, either that or a lawyer, also if found out lieing give the guy negative feedback and report him for fruadulent activity, also see if the unit has a warranty.
Best of luck

Well, this has happened to me before. it turned out to be such a headache it just wasnt worth it. The seller had 100% positive feedback and was always ready to answer my questions. And there was the whole question about the shipping company (Ive heard a few complaints about UPS). It turned into a huge, and i mean huge mess. I ended up selling my monitor on ebay as "needs repair" and actually got a pretty good amount back. I think thats your best bet. I also took it as a reality check. I wanted to make something impressive but i dont have a huge amount of experience when dealing with electrical projects. Alot of these people on this site spend alot of time and have prior experience in order to create thier setups. Its not as easy as they make it look. I ended up getting a good deal on a DLP projector with 1800:1 contrast and 1200 Lumens. I actually used the money from the faulty monitor to pay for some of it. So, if you really want to save yourself alot of time and frustration, seriously look at what you want to end up with. Move on from this as smoothly as possible, dont lose your focus, and take a realistic big step. I whole heartedly recommend taking the DLP route. When i sit down to watch TV or a DVD and i dont have to worry about heat issues, hot spots, LCD degredation, dead pixels, metal halide questions, annoying fan noise, and i can just relax and enjoy my viewing experience, that to me is worth going DLP. It is an easy of use, stress free, solution, and it really does impress everyone. Whereas a huge box that sounds like an airplane and could go at any moment is not quite as impressive as my tiny 3 lbs. 1800:1 box is. And by the way , in truth, my bulb is going to last at least a few (more than two) years. By then i'll upgrade. Remember, the sooner you move on, the sooner you will get to be where you want. Watching a flawless 80+ inch screen, hi-res, incredible contrast, and best of all, no stress. I hope you understand that i was where you were 6 months ago. and i am not going to go back to being a dellusional DIYer. I know i will get alot of flack for this post but it comes from being honest with the average person that reads these posts and thinks that it is all very simple. There are a few that create masterpieces on this site. Most end up frustrated after several months of time effort and money invested in a DIY project.
Thanks Ace... I am taking it to work and letting our IT chick take a look at it. Then I'm going to drop it off at Best Buy or some local hack. I refuse to be out $250 for the BenQ 567s. Even though that seems to be a fairly good price.

I'm doing it mainly for the fun and bragging rights of saying, "hey everybody, look what I did." Like you I don't have a lot of experience with this kinda stuff...buy man... I gotta tell ya, just knowing that it is in my realm to do turns me on. I'll bounce back and complete this project.
Thanks for your advise.
