It figures; my first speaker mod and the stupid thing doesn't even work. I replaced the tweeter, x-over and wires in a cheap floor standing speaker, hooked it up and... no sound. What a let down. I figure it's probably a connection but it's too late in the evening to troubleshoot. Oh well, I'll probably wait until next weekend to see what I can do with it. 🙁
Be patient.
Check your work carefully, and you might want to check the speaker with an ohm meter before connecting it to your amplifier.
Zero ohms and infinite ohms (open) can both damage your amplifier. Its unlikely that a short... I mean quick test will hurt it, but there is a chance. Even a cheapo meter from Rad-shack will do it, no need for precision here, just need to no if your showing a short, open circuit or 8 ohms to your amp.
Most of my projects blow up a few times before I get them working. Mostly from sloppy work, sometimes from poor design. (the curse of evil king fecal- The brown touch) In the end I’ve found that fixing the problem can be as much fun as the rest of the project.

Okay, got it fixed. What a relief. Sorry to bother you all with this stupid mistake. It was a connection. After putting a few hours into this I failed to make a good connection to the cheap spring clips in the back of the speaker. The speaker cable I'm running to it is almost too thick to fit and I made the mistake of attempting to make this last connection in the dark.
Although I haven't given the speaker a good run through, it does seem to be functioning correctly. I installed a Dayton Tweeter, a 2-way Dayton crossover @ 3000 Hz and new 16 guage wiring throughout with stock woofers wired in series. And, despite the let down last night I'm now satisfied just to hear sound come out of it. Too late to crank it up tonight so I'll probably see how it handles tomorrow. Thanks for jumping in to help.
