Over the years, I have built aleph 3's aleph 30's and now, I have decided to convert all of them to aleph J's. The conversion is easy as long as you are using Brian's Aleph J boards and can find the 2sj74's. I have a Bi-amped stereo that uses 6 channels of aleph amps. One Aleph for each driver in a M-T-M speaker.
So far, I have converted two channels to the aleph j...made some errors and finally got them working. I put those channels on the Scan Speak Revelator tweeters, then put on what I consider to be a well recorded but perhaps difficult recording to play back. It is Dick Hyman playing Fats Waller on a Reference Recording.
I always liked the lower registers of the piano playing, but always had a slight problem with the higher registers. The play back is is through a USB Doede Duama DDDAC MkII with lots of Jung superregulation and a B1 buffer in front of a BOSOZ Preamp doing double duty as a line level passive crossover. (inductors and capacitors doing crossover duties)
I can say undoubtedly that the Aleph J channels on the tweeters is an improvement over the 30's. The highes are a little sweeter, and you can hear the character of the piano better. I now like the higher registers as much as I like the lower registers...
So just my two cents...I'll be converting the rest of the Aleph 30's as a summer project.
