hey guys:
Are projection lenses for CRT projectors any good here? Can they do the right focal lengths? Or am i an idiot? I've got a set of lenses for a 9" crt unit, sitting around.... I can probably test it before you guys get back to me on that one. But..yah never know.

Willing to sell one or two?
Those are 9 inch diameter CRT projection lenses, right? Man, I would love to have one or two of those.
I want to use one for a 8 inch diagonal LCD, it would be great. Then I wouldn't have to worry about a fresnel after the lcd and matching it to the focal length of whatever projection lens I could find.
Let me know if you will sell me one, OK?
Thanks.

I know guys who have many for sale. many, many, many. We're talking about the 'metal barreled, with outer focus' units, from US precision optics. HD-10 lenses and the like. HD-146 is the other, which is a shorter focus unit, in terms of PJ distance from wall.
Go to the CRT forum on AVSforum. Curt Palme might have some for sale or a multitude of other guys. You should be able to get one for under $100, easy (be persistent), and in excellent shape. Some might have a dent in the metal barrel on the outer edge or the like, which is why they are getting rid of them. More and more 9" CRT units are being scrapped, as the trend spirals down and the tubes get more rare and expensive..and digital finally gets 'good enough' for most folk.
This is why you should be able to get these lenses pretty darned cheap.
Try Fleabay too.

What you REALLY want, is the lens system from and ECP 2000, or and ECP 'graphics'.
They were single lens units, that were HUGE, with long focal lengths. Or, the lensing systems from older BARCO LCD panel based units. They had the capacity to focus on 7-8" panels, and the lenses were and are about $8000. They can sometimes sell for cheap on eabay.
An image of the ECP, I'll see if I can find one.
Here's a barco that likely has 5.5" or larger LCD panels. Look at that frickin' lens! wow! these puppies are "crem'de'la'creme" of lens technology and usually get GIVEN AWAY. That particular lens is likely to ahve been about $10-12K when it was new.
That entire, mint, working barco..which was about $80k or more when new..is likely to go for about $300.00..in about two hours, on ebay. Seriously. What a shame. It is in PERFECT working condition, and with a nearly new bulb.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
