I'd bought one of these little Muse PCM1793 DACs direct from China after having had great results with one of Muse's TDA1543x4 units. The first one was DOA & I stupidly accepted a replacement rather then a refund.
This one at least works more or less & sounds pretty good as long as the recording is simple and low in level. The moment things start to get more complex though huge amounts of distortion creep in, particularly at the bass end, it sounds for all the world like my amp is overloading (it isn't). I'm presuming it's something in the output stage (uses an OP275 rather then the OPA2134 listed) as it sure sounds like analogue distortion.
It also gets worse as the unit warms up.
I've ruled out the source & it's power supply, it's definitely the unit itself.
I'm good with valves & transistors, I'm out of my depth with chips & DAC's, any idea where I might look or shall I just throw it in the bits box?
