Multichannel digital audio plus data over network?

Can anyone give me pointers to some technology that will allow multichannel audio to be transmitted digitally over a network? Aiming for 8 channels of 24bit/96kHz audio plus data (not continuous; just some system commands).

Any ideas?

This lists some possible candidates. I know Ethersound and Cobranet are used quite a bit, but mostly in live audio and install markets.

Yeah, licensing costs are quite high since most standards are intended for professional equipment, not consumer equipment. Still, simply doing some packet sniffing might get you a long way in understanding the protocol. This is probably regarded as backwards engineering tho.

Yeah, I'll do some more research as well (I don't have the packet sniffing tools right now). I found this thread, which seems to be interesting. Still reading through it...
