I tried searching but didn't find any definitive results.
I have a SAE preamp that uses a MPSU56 as the single output device running class-A, and I have a couple of power amp projects here that use MPSU56 and its compliment as drivers.
Can anyone suggest a recommended or suitable replacement device? I can make a different pinout work if i had to, I am more interested in suitable specs and sonics.

Which SAE preamp? Schematic?
The MPSU56 is a very old part, antique "annular" technology. I am sure a newer Planar device will do the same job; but we need to see how it is used.

SAE MK1B, the schematic I have shows a different output device. a TO-39 type but I must have a later version as my board is clearly marked and layed out for the MPSU56 package type and marked SAE902 and the devices are marked MSAE902 (Motorola's). the cross ref website I found lists the SAE902 as a MPSU56 and that seems to make sense with the package style.
Q14 is our devices and on this schematic it is a 2N4036, but as I said on mine it is the 902/U56

KSA1220A/KSC2690A (ECB) is close enough I think to a MPS-U05(06)/MPS-U55(56) (EBC)

I replaced an MPSU56 I blew in an Allen S-100 amp with a TIP32C. It was a driver for a MJ802 output transistor. I had to twist the leads around. It worked, and is still working weekly. I put a little heat sink on it. The 300 organ the amp is in has no frequencies over 7000 hz.
