Can I mount a speaker on the outside of the baffle instead of the inside to shift magnet position to more inline with midrange speaker ? , would this make much difference ?

The difference it would make for the midrange depends strongly on the crossover frequency, I think.
I high crossover could result in an audible difference between in- or outside mounting of the sub.

many thanks for your reply bart , 500 hz crossover , I thought the phase shift beniffits would out weigh the differance , the mid and tweet are serface mount.
If you are looking for the least amount of delay, having the voice coil of your midrange and woofer time aligned will reduce any phase issues.
I'm not the expert here and I can't help you with calculations but the tweeter should be mounted backward too if you're concerned with phase issues.

I didnt know if there would be much impact on resonance, having 25mm (baffle thickness) of the cone out side of the internal enclosure ,if I mount the cone from the outside (having to apply a foam tape seal) bringing the speakers more into alignment
A 500 Hz wave is 2.26 feet long, speaker alignment within about 6.78 inches (1/4 wavelength) is "close enough" at that frequency.
unfortunately its 800 hz 1.4 ft long gives me 4", about an inch out, may have to fix outside after all.

Generally speaking, a front mounted speaker has less diffraction problems than rear mounting.
Frequency response should be the same, other than the change from the slight cabinet volume increase.
