I have these high powered mono blocks that I purchased in 1995. They have Wondercaps in the signal path. They put out about 1800W a piece and have a slight brassy brittle sound....plus the bass response is lacking. I would Imagine it is the Wondercaps. They have Mosfets with 2 huge toroidal tranformers.
I'm not a tech....but I have a very good one that works on projects for me. I was thinking of recapping these amps with Mundorf supemes or Obbligatos.
Any opinions what might sound better and create a synergy with a mosfet design.
I just had the tech replace 2 2.7uf Wimas coupling caps with Mundorf M Supremes in my Monarchy NM24 Dac.....The result is a eye-opener with much more resolution, clarity, and tonal balance along with very good punch in the bass. So I really like these caps and with only 30+ hours....It has turned into a no-brainer.

Well, what makes you think the sound anomole is caused by CAPs? Is it possible that all the dishs, silverware and cooking utensils in your kitchen, along with all the windows in your house, might be causing the slight brassy brittle sound? 😉
Hmmm 😀 Bass response? Might that have anything to do with trying to run 2, 2KW amps on AC wiring meant for a few 300W TVs and a couple 100W lights???
Sorry, I just could not resist

Flq.....these amps are just a little intimidating on power up. I have 4 20 amp dedicated circuits installed.
My question is what is the signature of the wondercaps? While these amps sound good they are just a tad bright. So I was thinking about recapping them. I like the Mundorf M Supreme and was also thinking about the Obbligato.
I have recapped equipment with great results....I guess I'm hooked.

Well Wondercaps did have a good rep some time back but I can't honestly say much about them. It takes extended listening and some kind of comparitive A-B testing to really know. I have been using Mundorf's myself. I like them but I havent tried the Gold or Silver types. I've got a few Rel Caps for the next project...

Nothing wrong with trying if you have the money to do it.
All that is important is that to your ears is sounds good (better) - nothing else.
All the caps you mention have good rap sheets. For example, B&W speakers use the Mundorfs in their flagship speaker cross overs - so that's got to be a good recommendation in its own right.
good luck.
