Morel Supreme 110 x MDT-33

Hi all,

I already tested the Hiquphon OWI and Seas 27TDFC/27TFFC and a lot of less famous/expensive tweeters.

To me, the OW1 sounded too artificial. Detailed? Yes, but not natural details.
It was like a detail generator. Details always sounded the same and with emphasis in the same frequency.
Also I noticed a lack in the higher(10/12K+) frequencies. I don't know if I can call that ''lack of air'', but there were something missing.
In comparassion with the 27TDFC, Seas tweeter sounded much more natural and well balanced. A little bit dark, but better that than the irritating false details of the OW1.

Very strange, isn't it?!
It goes against all OW1 reviews out there! 😕

Its also important to say that the 27TDFC was tweaked.
The ferrofluid was removed and the rear compression chamber received some mo difications.
These mods drastically improved the tweeter performance.

This week a friend of mine brought for me to test a pair of Morel MDT-29.
After some crossover adjustments, the results were awesome!
Sounded much better(and different) than de OW1 and the modded TDFC!
The lower frequencies(2K-6K) are very precise and have a great impact(sounds heavy, strong, big).
Its also very good at the higher frequencies. Very extended response and lots of air, without sounding artificial, harsh, bright. A very musical, precise and natural sound.
Strong, but natural.

So after that big surprise I decided to give a try on other Morel tweeters.

I'm between the MDT-33 and the Supreme 110.
MDT-30 and MDT-32 could also be purchased, but I don't think anyone prefers they over the 33 and the 110. But if someone do, please let me know!

So, between the MDT-33 and the Supreme 110, wich one is the best?
I know that there's no ''best'' in audio, I just want to hear your opinions.

I read in some old that the 33 sounds very different from the 110.
Is that true?

In that case, wich one sounds more similar to the MDT-29(I guess its the 33... but, who knows...).

Any help appreciated.

Thanks!

I use MDT-33's, and have heard them compared to the Morel Supremo (yes, the car version of the Supreme 110), and the difference is night and day. The MDT-33's are very smooth, while the Supremo's are on the verge of harshness in the top end. These however are designed as off axis tweeters to my understanding (for a car environment). I'd say the Supremo's definately had a slight edge, more airy in the top end, and both sounded very detailed.

Personally I would choose the MDT-33 over the Supremo/e.

So there are really big differences between they...

I'm starting to think more seriously in buying the 33.
As I said, I only listened to the 29, and I like the kind of sound it produces. I just want this same type of sound, but better, with the improvementes of a higher level tweeter.

Maybe the Supreme 110 is not going to give me that sound(the classic Morel sound, I supose).

Wow, im my little google reserch I didn't find that test!
*Very* interesting results!

I think I'll go with the MDT33, even people calling me crazy for not buying the top model for just a few bucks more, lol...

And talking about $$$...
Searching in some old topics, many people put the MDT30 as being of great value for money. But the are just a few commentaries about the 33 and his high price tag.

I know this kind of thing is very relative and personal, but what do you guys think, the 33 worth the $80 of difference from the MDT-30?

This new tweeter will probably be the last one I will buy in a long long time, so if its necessary there's no problem in spending some more.
But if it's not necessary...

Thanks for the help!

My only experience of Morel is the MDT-32S. I found them to sound very fast, dynamic and realistic, particulary with cymbols, but with vocals the top end is very sibilant. I wouldn't recommend them for the latter reason.
