Modifying an Adire LCC for mains use

Hello all,

I am a newbie to diy speaker building and am looking at building the Adire audio LCC for my home theater. The only problem is that Adire doesn't make a 3-way main speaker. So....I've been thinking about adapting a pair of LCC's for mains use. My question is this:

Can I simply build the LCC's as specified and turn them on end for mains use? I imagine that this would cause some strange off-axis responses and possibly require crossover tweaking (of which I know nothing)

Or, can I turn the LCC on it's side, and rotate the mid/tweet assembly so that it sits vertical, a vertical WTMW design.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I could speculate, but I don't see the point since the designers, Dan and David are hard core DIYers who turned their passion and expertise into a business and will give you the most correct answer if you ask them.

tg3 and GM,

Thanks for the quick responses. I had contacted Dan and Dave at Adire but have not received word back yet. However, on hometheatertalk, last night, Dan answered this question stating that Adire was working on a 3-way version of the 281's initially with a single 8", followed by a dual 8" setup. He couldn't comment on when or how much except to say, soon and not much.

This is great news, but it just means I'll have to wait longer to get my front stage built 😉

I would like to have the added clarity of the AV5 midrange. This new driver really delivers a smooth response. If you look at the frequency response curves for the LCC and the 281's, you'll see that they are quite a bit different. The AV5 really helps deliver the midrange better.
