Modify earmuffs to be weaker & alternatives

Hello,

I have a rare health condition and I am very sensitive to sounds (a type of hyperacusis). I wear noise reduction earmuffs at daytime every day.
[I am writing on these forums because for my question there are hardly any other forums that it would fit better; I hope this is acceptable.]
One of the ways I can cure myself, from my experience, is to slowly reduce my protection. Now I am using a pair of earmuffs called Peltor Optime 1 and I want to change these to weaker ones, but they don't sell earmuffs that would be appropriate (weak enough, and possibly similar frequency attenuation curve).
I was thinking of modifying an Optime 1, eg. drill holes in it, but I don't know how much that would distort the sound (frequency spikes) or whether it would make it too weak. Do you have any suggestions please?
I was aslo thinking about custom made stuff but I don't know where to start.

On the attached image you can see the noise reduction curve of the Peltor Optime 3 (my previous earmuffs) and Optime 1. I want to weaken my protection similarly again, so weaken it by 8-10 dB's on all frequencies or as close as I can make it.

I approve; I own the Optime™ 105 (NRR 30 dB) for working around loud engines. Also muffs similar to Food Industry Earmuff H9A-02 (NRR 26 dB) and Model 1000 (NRR 20 dB).

"Optime 1" does not seem to be a current model?

If you want less than is shown in your curve, you are into the working range of ear-plugs. But the effective response is different (and different for every head/ear).

Drilling holes may not be a wrong thing. Peaks are largely damped by the internal foam. Anyway a strong peak will ice-peak an over-sensitive ear, so you'll try something else pretty quick.
