I have a Pink Triangle Tarentella with a Rega RB-300 arm. I want some recomendations for a good MM cartridge. I do not know the capacitance of my arm cables. Effective lateral mass of the RB300 is 10.1g. I havent bought a phono pre yet, but I'm thinking about GSP Era Gold, Grado or Thorens. The Thorens is the by FAR the cheapest and has the best published specs, distortion .002 compared to .03 and SN ratio >82db vs around 72. I was thinking about the Goldring used on the NAD 533, because its used with a RB250
the Goldring Elektra is the cartridge used the 533
Mounting standard 1/2" Weight 4.2g
Stylus Elliptical 18µm x 7µm Frequency Response 20Hz-20kHz
Equivalent Stylus Tip Mass 0.7 mg Output Voltage 5 mV
Sensitivity 1 kHz @ 5cm/sec Channel Separation 20 dB @ 1kHz
Channel Balance 2 dB @ 1kHz Tracking Force 1.5-2.0g
Load Capacitance 150-400 pF Internal Inductance 560 mH
Static Compliance 16 µm/mN Load Resistance 47 kohms
In the UK its 3/4 the price of a Grado Black, its a budget
cartridge, appears to be very poor value in the States.
This is a classic, high output moving coil :

Ortofon's are very good but the cheaper one's
again appear to be poor value in the States.
Audio Technica its the same story, rip-off cheap cartridges
in the States, but this seems pretty good for the money :

this would appeal to me :

Grado's seem to be excellent value in the States, I've tried a Black
in a turntable I rebuilt, sounded very nice but lacked treble 'bite'.
and buy a carbon fibre record brush whilst your at it !
🙂 sreten.
