This looks simple and cheap enough, I need a phono preamp for testing purposes of my DIY turntable as I build it. What is the quality of this circuit like compared to the cheap ones available at he moment.

Check here for a simple to build version. I designed a PCB based on an ElCheapo that would fit in a mint tin. Is dead quiet and sounds very good although, expect will sound better with higher B+ (two 9v batteries) and better output capacitors (small poly, teflon or PIO) - next version. Let me know if you need help

What do you mean by "dead quiet "?

It is really dead quiet?
I never heard a "dead quiet" anything(audio). I have head 'very quiet but not "dead quiet".
If it is really "dead quiet",I think a will make one.😀

Well.. just a little hiss with my ear up against the midrange horn of my Klipsch LaScala with the volume turned up all the way. So, i'd say its quiet... 😉
