MJF15030/31 versus MJE15030/31

Hi all,

I am overhauling a Krell KSA80. I read in various threads that the driver transistors, MJF15030/31, being plastic TO220 types, are more prone to thermal failures. Is there any reason I would not replace these devices with the MJE equivalents? These drivers are mounted on heatsinks that are not electrically connected.

Just replace them with the MJE versions and use a insulation pad and a plastic bushing on the mounting screw.

If you are 100% sure the heatsinks are not electrically connected to anything, then you can mount them without insulation.

Heatsinks are usually connected to ground in commercial amplifiers, but i've also seen floating at the supply rails.
