Hi folks
Whilst sorting through the bits pile of a company I work for I found about 2 dozen each of the Onsemi MJE15030/1 devices. They have no idea what they were bought for, and so are available as a blag if I want them.
Does anyone here have a circuit that uses them, indeed, are they any use for audio at all?

They are very good for audio applications as driver transistors, being 30MHz types. Many amps, like the AKSA, use them.
Perhaps they can be implemented on a small power amp too, as output transistors, using three or four pairs to be on the safe side power wise.
Should be good for headphone amps too.

Yeah, I read the product pdf and was impressed by the figures, but the one thing I have learnt from you guys is that measured specs mean nothing in regard to audio electronics 😉
I think I will pick them up next time I'm over there, and though they will be sitting around at home for a while, they may come in useful for something!
Just a thought- I was going to build some ESP P3as relatively soon, would they work as driver trannies (or even output if I did as carlmart suggested and doubled them up), in that amp?
Coda 100w power amp use them as output transistors.If I well remember something like 40-48 on each channel.Exc.sounding

I'm guessing they would do up to 50 watts, a bit more if
used in parallel sets. They're commonly used as drivers
for MJ15003/4 and similar devices.

I can only speak for me.
I like grataku. He belongs to them, who has THE GUTS to say what he thinks.
He as well as halojoy can be uncomfortable at times.
But anybody who wants to know us,
also knows that we are no evil persons.
We say what we want to say, we like the freedom of expression and speech.
We can give a punch or two at times,
and we are prepared to take a punch or THREE - that is only fair.
Let us all give and take, without losing our temper.
I am not made out of glass, that will break for smallest strain.

I think I expained my reasoning in the second email I sent you, but if you want to take it further then you have my permission to put our correspondance up in a new thread in EE, so everyone can see it. I will be away on holiday for a week from Sunday, so you can discuss it with others with no fear of interference from me.
I have no worries about anyone quoting any emails I send when in Moderator mode, as far as i am concerned, my actions should be open to scrutiny at all times. If you have a problem with my actions, then post it in EE, or correspond privately, it's up to you.
I agree completely, but I am only learning the electronics side of things, and I am not knowledgeable enough to sort out the good specs from the dubious ones, for instance, all the 0.0000001% distortion amps in the 80's that sounded rubbish, and portable stereos with 300w pmpo (10w if you're lucky)😉

Those parts were very popular some 5-10 years ago, even though they were originally devoped for switching applications. I guess the main reason was that they were more readily available than some Toshiba or Sanken parts.
Also, 30 MHz gain bandwidth and 50-100 pF CB capaciatance at 30 V are still reasonable numbers.
But just look at Fig. 8. Their current gain linearity is pretty poor compared to real audio output devices. Gain begins to droop at 1 A, and reaches half its maximum value somewhere between 2 and 3 A. I also suspect linearity below 0.1 A is really poor as some devices I have here measure with current gains of 15-20 on a multimeter tester.
If you want to use them as a VAS or predriver transistor, a modern video transistor in the TO-126 case is usually a better choice, offering a CB capacitance below 5 pF, better bandwidth and similar or better current gain linearity.
