I have a Dennon AVR-2106. Yesterday I was testing/fixing some speakers I got for free they had a bad midrange not anymore though.
I was putting the speaker back together and I had a speak wire hooked up to the B-SPeakers output on my Dennon. It was laying on the ground in moving things around I beleive the wire may have crossed it's ends. Whatever happend my stereo shut down and will not start back up. The power button\light flashes continously after the normal startup time has passed.
Basically when you turn it on it looks like everything is good than it shutsdown blinking red. According to the manual this indicates "Speaker terminals are short circuited" among other things that do not apply here.
I removed the B wire as well as the other speker wires just to test and nothing or should I say same thing, shutdown.
Any ideas?

I just looked at my manual, since I have the same AVR. I have triggered the protection circuit on mine, but by shutting it off it cooled down and restarted fine. In my case I remodeled my cabinet for improved ventilation.
In your case it looks like you may have "blown" an internal protection fuse or link that Denon considers not user serviceable. I say that after looking at page 5 in the box titled "Protection Circuit". Do you have speakers hooked up now, with a load on the output stage? I don't see any fuses on mine that look like they could be the problem. I did not open it up to look in.
You might give Denon a call or maybe Try Here for Denon User Forum

It's not a heat thing becuase it has sat all night and all day today and still same thing. I havn't opened up the case either to look for fuses. Though when I turn it on now it makes a weird sound (a click maybe, more of a quite thump hard to explain) that was not there before during startup.

But what doesn't make sense is at the time only the A channel was hooked up to speakers thought there was a cable hooke up to one of the B channels.

Sorry about the lack of good info... Did you have a look at that Denon forum? I did a quick search on AVR 2106 and a few good hits came up. I didn't really dig into it. There were a few posts on speakers clicking and what not. Check it out and maybe post your issue. Also, I might look into Denon service options, at least see what they say. That unit will be complicated inside and may be difficult to chase anything without the schematics.
On another note, I don't think you permanently damaged your AVR. It just does not seem like a short on the speaker side would cause any permanent damage. After all that is what the protection circuitry is meant to handle.

Thanks again I tried to get on the site you requested but my internet was not being friendly last night. I posted there today we will see what comes of it. I just need to check out to see if it is still under warranty or not. I can't remember how long ago I purchased it or if I bought the extended warranty or not. I can't see why it won't restart itself either even without any speaker wires hooked up. Just doesn't make sense to me. I'm no "Audio God" but I know quite a bit, enough to be dangerous.
Again thanks for all your effort, and just to clarify I was joking about being pissed about you coming back with bad news and not a simple easy fix. Such as spin around in 3 circles touch your nose than switch the power on and everything is good, plus and added 100 watts per channel will be gained.
