Hey guys,
I'm looking for some simple mid range horn plans that can be made from wood that cover about 400Hz to 4kHz. I'm curious what the DIY community here knows of and can put on my radar. Any fun ideas?
Thanks!

Hi, maybe check out the sabourin horn plans by Joseph Crowe. There’s multiple options, even 2 variations able to take 8” drivers. The biggest one loads down to 200hz and the other ones to 300hz. I purchased the plans but haven’t built one yet.. very thorough designed and accurate angle/bevel measurements 😉
I built a pair of Edgar midrange horns a long time ago, they worked really well. Depends how easy it is to find the JBL LE-5 drivers for them as to whether they are still a good option.

No, that's the cutoff. You can expect to use them close to that low. Even higher if directivity is expected. The biggest one loads down to 200hz and the other ones to 300hz.
Cutoff is not connected with directivity.. in some (indirect) respects it's the opposite. Perhaps (guessing) by the sizes and flares it wouldn't hold that below 1kHz, even if this weren't important you shouldn't use a horn down to it's cutoff.

No, the cutoff is always below the controlled directivity.
Please show my a horn which is controlled in dispersion lower than the cut-off frequency. Hint: you won't find any. That's physics.
Why are you leaving the hard work to me?Hint: you won't find any. That's physics.
Why are you leaving the hard work to me?
Because you've claimed something impossible. And your simulation clearly shows it does not maintain a controlled dispersion. Yes, it doesn't widen (like it usually does), it rather closes down. Thank you for confirming my argument.
E: If you want to dispute this, please post a sonogram and the horn specifics.
So you don't have any examples for your theory? 😀 Your claim is so outrageous like saying water is flowing uphill. I don't need to prove you wrong since that's common knowledge and physics doesn't make exceptions, not even for you. Your demand for proof something doesn't exist is impossible. Prove god doesn't exist? Prove the gravity never reversed? That's the level of proof you're asking for. I can tell from thousands of horns I've seen measurements of, I've never ever seen one having dispersion control below its loading frequency. There isn't even a theory which would support that, the opposite.
Another candidate, the RCF H6000 horn combined with the mr8n301 closed back driver is also to be used above 400hz if you trust the specifications. https://en.toutlehautparleur.com/horn-rcf-h6000-for-mr8n301.html
Not so simple to make it from wood though..
