I bought an old pair of Beyer microphone transformers and built an step up transformer with it. It sounds awesome with my Zu Denon 103 cartridge. Now my question is, can I do better with a more modern transformer such as Lundahl, Hashimoto or Jensen? Has anyone compared?
There are a couple of comparisons towards the end of this page: http://members.myactv.net/~je2a3/mic-mcstep-up.htm - but very likely you have seen it already?
I'm also using a (nude) Denon 103, with a Newcomb TR-91 SUT. I made a step-up from some Altec 15095's, but I find that I prefer the slightly warmer, fuller sound from the Newcomb. I haven't heard anything more modern as yet.
