Hi -- I'm frankenstening together a mic and I have everything but the mic body. If I have to, I'll hack up a pipe or something, but I'd love to find a mic body for sale somewhere... I have been unable to dig anything up on any of the DIY mic kit websites... they sell the kits, or capsules, but no bodies... Any tips on where to look? I'm going to post a WTB for old/broken LDC's... Thanks! -c
A cheapo mike on Ebay, maybe. So many cheap chinese ones are available, at least here

Thanks, yeah -- I've been looking. Can't seem to find any truly cheap/broken, though. My budget is tiny. 🙂
visit every music store in your area, ask if they have any dead microphones. Try at the repair counter, the sales floor might not keep them around. Something that is not going to be repaired. You could intimate that it might be for a prop in a play, or just tell them it is for you messing around.
Got any sound production companies local? Ask them. Ask any band you see. Dead mics are sitting somewhere.

I found a dynamic mic for $2.99 or something at a 99c store. It wasn't the big 99c Only chain, but a Chinese family-run variant. The case was big enough to hold enough circuitry after removing the original stuff and it came with a spherical mesh thingy. I didn't actually attempt disassembly however.
