Metal Halide Lamp age?

OK I got my ELMO 305 SD overhead the other day, and to my surprise the bulb still worked (UPS must not have dropped it too hard) , it got a 575MH lamp and puts out 7300 Lumens, my question is:

I've head that MH lamps don't just die, they start to fade out as they age, I don't know how old this lamp is so I don't have any idea how bright it's supposed to be (it is brighter than my old 4000 Lumens ohp), but how much brightness do you loose when they get old?

It seems to me that the brightness of a MH lamp will quite gradually decrease during the end of its life. You'lll slowly be able to notice that the brightness of the picture just begins to get lower and lower. I find that MH lamps can last a very long time though, I'd also imagine it's a pain in large department stores with high ceilings to replace them so I doub't they burn out that fast or the stores wouldn't use them.

um....what department stores use MH projection bulb's in their ceilings? I think you are refering to mogul based, highbay lighting...big honkin bulbs...4.5 inchs across...11 inchs long...10,000 hour burn some go WAY longer than that.

As for the issue at hand...I can't help...I'm still using a crappy old 360 watt ENX 🙁 I'm talking myself into going the route of 400 watt mogul base, I have all the components just no time.
