Is there a way to test Dolby, surround sound, 5.1, 7.1 sounds on my computer? Where does one find such media? My sound card requires certain settings to use 5.1 or 7.1 and I am not sure if I have them correctly set. I do not find any 5.1 music CDs so I wonder where to find them.

I don't know how to set up Cakewalk Sonar (MIDI sequencer) to take advantage of 5.1.

Find a DVD that includes the THX Optimizer. There's an audio test that plays noise through each channel in turn. You could rip that (if legal on your planet) and extract the audio track, or just play the DVD.

There are numerous tools where you can create multitrack samples. Many are free and open source too, e.g. audacity or sox. Conversion of multitrack wav to ac3 - e.g. aften. All money-free, virus-free and legal-troubles-free.
