Matching impedance (very basic query)

I have just bought a used Technics amp which has a switch next to the speaker terminals giving the choice of 4-6 Ohms or 8-16 Ohms output. The speakers I intend to use with this amp have a stated impedance of 4-8 Ohms. Which output on the amp would be best to use. Many thanks.

I would say the 4 to 6 ohm setting - what model of amp and make of speakers do you have?

Thanks for your reply. The amp (when it arrives) is an old Technics SU-V2X and the Speakers are an old set of Eltax Symphony 6.2

Try the 4 to 6 ohm setting first, and then the higher one, and see what you prefer. Best to switch the amp off when changing the setting, just in case.
