MarkAudio CHN719 is now on sale in japan.
Unfortunately, the CHN719 (4") and CHN519 (3") are only available in Japan at this time.
Both are excellent drivers with very good cost performance, but it is strange that they are only available in Japan.

Not strange as such. They were designed for the Japanese market at the request of the Japanese distributor (& part owner). Whether dealers in the rest of the world wish to buy another 3in & 4in model to retail, or would prefer one of the other units we have under development is another matter. The markets are rather different -Japan is MA's largest market, as it has a higher proportion of enthusiasts interested in small fullrange units, so it does tend to get one-off or custom versions of other units that won't necessarily be released elsewhere, as the relative sales & distribution figures may not justify the step. Same for Fostex for e.g., who historically have kept many of their special edition releases to the home market.
+10dBs at 1kHz.
I would need to tame that before listening to that driver.

It was the request of the distributor, wasn't it? That's a pity.
That's a nice little Voigt pipe!
Thanks.

+10dBs at 1kHz, The sound is very energetic and nice.
Looks like a combination of pipe harmonic & edge diffraction -not unusual for compact boxes; you even see it in the axial response of the original LS3/5a prototypes, although they didn't heavily correct it there given the intended use of the speakers as voice monitors in mobile (often local) news broadcast vans & similar.+10dBs at 1kHz.

We have very different taste.+10dBs at 1kHz, The sound is very energetic and nice.
In Europe we can find this
https://www.soundimports.eu/en/markaudio-chn-70.html
Not exactly a "cheap" one driver (for a stamped steel basket) but without the DEEP CLIFF at around 400Hz (Data sheet 1)

Hi Elias,
CHN70 is available in Japan, too.
However, MarkAudio's paper cone drivers are not popular, so the metal cone CHN719 seems to have been introduced.
In addition, paper cones with mica are very popular these days.
Japanese builders are hoping to sell CHN70P-mica.
I don't remember DDVP-10-ML-12 having any problem with "cliff" around 400Hz. I will check again relative videos (YT) As for XXXX-mica , I don't believe that they will reach Europe. In Japan you have "a relation with benefits" with Mark Audio. In addition, paper cones with mica are very popular these days.

For the moment I'm playing with a pair of Dayton Audio PC83-8 on an "open baffle" - solid pine timber. Good for moderate listening level but not excited
