MarkAudio Alpair 11MS

Hello!

A little question about the MarkAudio Alpair 11MS.

I see on their website there is a ‘big’ dip (see screenshot) around 400Hz.
Can this (maybe) be a ‘measurement-artifact’ or can I 100% expect this same dip when I buy this driver and build it in a cabinet?
Do people here have some experiences with this driver and the dip?

Reseason for asking. I have (due to roommodes) a big dip around 245Hz, and with a big dip around 400Hz this created (I think) a fairly big dip in an important mids-erea.
Not ideal!

Thank you! 🙏🏻

The narrow gaps in the measurement should not be a concern.
Hello! Thanks for your message! Hmm… strange! I don’t see a (big) dip in your frequency response around 400Hz.
Is this due to the cabinet? 🤔
I’m afraid that there’s going to be a big gap from 200-500Hz when I buy the 11MS, also due too the dip around 245Hz in my room. Can’t have that

Why did you place the port in the middle of the cabinet? What’s the benefit of that placement?

Hi Niek,

Gaps in the frequency graph are caused by mutual interference between the driver, box, and room, but in most cases the effect will not be audible.

TWTD type has the aperture offset to disperse the resonant frequencies.
The general TQWT has the exit at the horn end, but with the exit offset, the frequencies are flatter and more oriented in the direction that is easier to hear.

Here is an attached measured response of a 11ms in a 8.5 litre box with a 35mm rear ventilation and rounded edges.
Thank you for sharing! With you, I also see that dip around 400Hz. There is a lot less energy around that frequency.
I also have far less energy from, say 200-300hz now.
I don’t want that. My current speakers lack some mids (200-400Hz). I’m afraid that when a place the 11MS i have a gap from 200-500hz. Or, far less energy.

Remember than much of that frequency will.be efgected by the room and edge diffraction.

I am an objectivist and not wedded to the full range driver philosophy, however despite how they measure I will put up my hand and say that they sound better than they should.

*also keep in mind that my measurements will not be 100% accurate- but a good guide nonetheless

You can. Accordomg to what Mark told me, it is an unavoidable artifact of the MS suspension scheme. Narrow enuffit is not really audible (not something i have heard when auditioning them), you will see the same but smaller in the A7ms, and it pretty much disappears in the A5.2/3.
