Marantz SR7500 receiver displays check pow5 and shuts down. I read something on the net saying that their was an amplifier problem so I pulled the amplifier module out. I've also checked the 5 volt supply and it is fine.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have see this before on a SR8500 which is very similar. If you get the Check Pow5 message, the CPU thinks that there is a low or missing 5 volt supply somewhere. The 5 volt supply is usually for the CPU and other digital and preamplifier functions, so I highly doubt the problem is with the amp. This can be caused by a missing supply from the power board (usually bad regulator) or could be caused by a shorted component somewhere on one of the boards (much more difficult to find). You will need to trace this supply through the various boards starting with the power board. Do you have the service manual? You will need it.

If you find that the 5V and 3.3V are OK on the digital board and at the CPU, then there is another thing you could look at. Try applying coolant spray to the various ICs on the digital board. Ultimately, my problem with my SR8500 was traced to a bad solder connection on a leg of the EPROM IC on the foil side of the digital board. After reflowing it, the receiver fired right up.
The cpu is bad. Found out it took a lightning hit so its heading to the scrap yard after I gather up the amplifier module and power supply. Thanks for your input.
