hi i have just picked up a marantz cd 73 off ebay.
ive been looking for one of these for ages, love the looks!!
hopefully with some help i will love the sound as well.
the player has the cdm0 mech , this loads the disc ok spins briefly , laser led lights and remains lit . the optics/ servo continously try to focus but the disc is stationary.
with no disc in the tray.
the spindle spins briefly and laser led lights but this stops after a few seconds.
i tried to access some info posted by another memeber recently but the website was having technical problems like my marantz.
the fascia is mint on this player and with some tlc i hopefully can bring it back to life, all leds , buttons operate fine.
any ideas on what might be wrong would be much appreciated. cheers c.a

This is about 90 percent likely to cure the problem:
Remove the bottom panel to access the underside of the mechanism(or whatever you need to remove for access). In the bottom center of the platter motor, you will see a sort of brown threaded insert with a T10 Torx(star shaped) screwdriver hole. Taking note of the starting position, turn this insert clockwise a little bit at a time, loading & trying a disc read each time. After probably 1/4 to 1/2 turn, it should start reading discs. Mark this position, then, while a disc is playing, gently continue turning clockwise until discs starts mistracking or stops playing. Mark this point, and turn the insert counterclockwise to halfway between the two marked points. This should put you at or very near ideal disc height range to play all cd's(and it should play most cd-r as well).

thanks for that excellent info.
now the good news ive located some drawings but not the service instructions. anybody got a p.d.f copy ?they could send me ?good lad !!
the even better news,i stripped all the boards off the player for inspection and found a dry joint on the servo feed flying leads.the disc now spins ok and i have an output on the right channel , not audiophile by any means but from the sample sound i received i cant wait to test it out with some king crimson !
but it means the data stream is intact and the cdm0 mech is not toast so this little beauty can be revived. phew!!
ill start checking all the power supplys tommorow and i reseated all the chips but it did not make any difference.
are there any easy (and cheap ) upgrades to do while its in bits ? any input from members welcome.
i will keep you up to date with progress and if i can get it singing i may splash out on a professional respray of the rusty cover.

Another common problem; PSU-caps are dried out.
You will find "repair-kit" on fleabay, all PSU-caps should be exchanged for new/fresh of better quality.
