Thanks Dave at Planet10 for the plan designs and for enduring my questions.
My previous experience only includes an Overnight Sensations kit and subwoofer using someone else design. On the sub I got to try using veneer on MDF and it came out nice. This time around i wanted to use walnut and see if I could make it look nice.
In the end it turned out pretty good. There were some mistakes made but you have to look really hard to see some of the edges not being perfectly, 100% flush. At first I thought it was going real bad but my sander ended up being my best friend. I rounded off all the edges and used a finish called "The Good Stuff".
Sound wise - They sound great. Vocals seem to be where they are really strong and it sounds like a person is singing there in the room. The sound takes up the entire room. Even at a low volume it seems to be a totally full sound. I have about 175 hours so far on them so I've started turning them up louder.
I plan on putting them in my spare room. I'm now building a hifi rack where I'll have a mini pc with a DAC, a turntable, both to a NAD 3020D amp. I'll also be building the ACA amp once I get it.
Here are some pics.

...really really lovely, the grain in outstanding...and who doesn't love finishing with "Emmits Good Stuff"... my favorite easiest finish.
Would those be Dave's Compact Floorstander with front facing vent?

Cool. I have been eyeing the one for the 10.3 which is smaller and more wedge shaped. I like speakers made of solid wood.
Emmet’s good stuff was really easy to use. I did have an issue with it after wet sanding the second coat. It’s really fogged up the finish unlike like experience (limited) with polyurethanes.
I also elected not to use a brace. Most because I didn’t think I could cut one accurately enough.
I sourced the felt liner from RugPadUSA and it cost about $60. I thought that was expensive but I couldn’t find anything else.
I think in the end I was out of pocket $300 for wood, including all my messed up cuts for which I have plenty of left over pieces, $60 for felt, $220 for speakers, another $50 in random stuff and tools so it wasn’t a cheap endevour.....
...... but they sound really good. I hear stuff I never heard before.
Thanks
Kevin
