Madisounds Speaker Special 2-ways

I am looking for some thoughts on these speakers. I need new fronts in my car real bad and these look like the ticket. Any thoughts on what to expect from them sounds quality wise? I may run them biamped with a active crossover and not use their crossover but i like the idea of having the option of running passive. My big concern is with the woofers since i cannot find any information on them. Will they be okay in a car? Do fiberglass coned speakers sound good?

These will go in the front doors of a mid 90's dodge intrepid high passed around 80-100hz with a shiva covering the lows. I hope to getting around to getting the kenwood 6x9s in the rear deck to cover some of the midbass some day as well, but have had problems getting them to blend with the rest of the system.

Madisound 2-way Automotive Audio System
There are limited quantities of this system.
4 ohm Impedance
40W RMS Power Handling
89dB Efficiency

Kit includes:

(2) 5.5" Vifa Fiberglass cone woofers
(2) 1" Vifa textile dome tweeters (D26NC05)
(2) Tweeter flush mounts
(2) Tweeter wedge mounts
(2) Crossovers (acoustical 24dB per octave @ 3kHz)
(2) Rubber boot magnet covers

The woofer is a cast frame with black fiberglass cone and rubber surround. You can stretch the decorative rubber boot over the magnet. Power handling and performance will increase if you use this system with a subwoofer, crossing out the low frequencies at 80 to 100Hz.

Outside diameter 140mm (5.5")
Cutout diameter 112mm (4.4")
Depth 57mm (2.25")
Magnet diameter 80mm (3.15"

The Vifa D26NC05 tweeter can be surface mounted, flush mounted or wedge mounted.

1) To surface mount: Use screw driver to pry off back plastic piece of tweeter, then mount the plastic piece to car, snap tweeter back onto plastic piece.

2) To flush mount: mount flush mount cup to car by using cup and clamps provided. You mount the clamps by sliding them through the slots from the inside bottom of the cup and then tighten the screw to clamp it in place. The tweeter will twist lock into the cup.

3) To wedge mount: Decide if you want the tweeter at 15 degrees or 60 degrees. Mount the wedge with the screws provided. Remove the back plastic piece from the tweeter. Snap the tweeter into the wedge.

Crossover hookup instructions are on top of the crossover case. There are switches to adjust for on and off axis positioning, as well as tweeter volume control. We suggest experimenting to see what combination sounds best to you.

We don't have grills for the woofers. The tweeters have grills attached.

It looks like a decent set. The drivers used are Vifa's so they're not junk. With a Qts of .43 should be just enough for mounting in doors, or best in a sealed enclosure. Preferably, with a Qts >.5 for door mounting, but should be ok. The Fs of 58Hz is pretty respectable for a 5.5" woofer. However, I think the thing that really sets off this set is the xover. This is one of the better pre-packaged xovers I've seen. You get air-coil inductors and there are switches to adjust for on and off axis positioning, as well as tweeter volume control.

All in all, seems like a pretty good deal for $120. In that price range I'm not sure you could do much better. Alpine Type-S comps sounded nice, but I'm still not sure you would beat the Vifa's. I have a lot of respect for Madisound and I don't believe they would put their name on junk. Nevertheless, it is always best to audition speakers, if you can, before you purchase. You may feel more comfortable going with something in your area that you can hear.

As for the fiberglass cones, I have never heard them so I'll have to leave those comments to someone else.

Caveat: they do not come with grills for the woofers. Not that this is a big deal, but fyi.
