Please note the new Mini-Mac. Looks like a slightly enlarged CD rom, doesn't it?

When they say "starting from", you know they mean the 40 GB version.

US Price: $499.
UK Price: $640, (£339).
Ireland Price: $690, (€519).

I'm sure Apple sells heaps of computers in both Ireland and the UK, so it's not like it's some odd item that has to be ordered special. We can be sure there are warehouses of these things in both places.

So-does anybody have an explanation for the price difference between the three countries?

Look at the price of speaker drivers in the US vs. everywhere else!

Mini Macs:

Actually , I think they MAKE a lot of 'em in Ireland!

Well, I have lots of old used macs and I now want NEW one!
That mini Mac is cool. It doesn't seem that clever at first, but their sales pitch is that you can use your PC keyboard and mouse (as long as they are USB) and monitor! So the cost to change to Mac is ONLY the cost of the Mini box. I think its going to be a huge seller!

Too bad my main application (Autocad ) doesn't

work on the mac 🙁

That's true, and I've been thinking of that as well.

But most driver manufacturers say the DIY driver business is only a small part of their overall business. When you have a situation like that, it is conceivable that a few large retailers, (Parts Express, Madisound, Speaker City), can get a much better price due to volume discounts than smaller, individual outlets. The price gap might not be due to national differences so much as the fact that the large retailers are located in one country, and not in another.

The Mac situation struck me because everyone knows they sell huge volumes of Macs everywhere, so it is a much better comparison than DIY drivers.

Getting ripped off in Europe is a common thing. I think you will find it has alot to do with stock trading and the economy of the given country if anything else. Tax also plays a role though that only counts for roughly 19% of it.

Here is a few others discusing the matter i found in a search.

I myself buy all of my gear from the USA. Typically i can get a decent saving even with the shipping.
