Hello,
I've got this, new to me, Luxman L-2 33W per channel amplifier from the 70's.
As my copy was made in 1979, I want to renew all electrolytic caps.
The input caps on the amplifier board is a 3.3 µF 50V electrolytic.
I plan to use a film cap 3.3µF 50V (made by Murata if the box they are in is the genuine one... )
Any cons ?
There are also 0.47µF/50V electrolytic caps. I've the same blue Murata film caps of 0.47µF/50V in my drawer. Any advice about using them instead of the same value electrolytic ?
Many thanks in advance for your help.

I assume you are talking about the COG series, while these have become somewhat
popular I'm not sure they were ok for audio path being ceramic. I went for Nichicon UKL,
the other popular alternative is wima mks(2?). MKS sounds a bit hash, maybe having a
long "burn in" so I generally use UKL. Please post you listening impressions

Be sure that the new caps are not Mylar (polyester film).
I'd be interested in why not, wima mks is polester film. Many believe thatBe sure that the new caps are not Mylar (polyester film).
they are better than electrolytics, like I say, I think they sound harsh. What
would you suggest.
Not questioning, just trying to learn something.
Agree it's just opinion...

Most of the Mylar types I've tried sound much worse than ps or pp film.
Also, Mylar caps usually have significantly higher measured distortion.
Measured Differences Between Capacitors for Audio Applications
Some Mylar caps may sound better than some electrolytics, but ps and pp caps
usually sound better than either. Yes, I'd say Mylar caps can sound rough, harsh,
dirty, veiled, etc. compared to other types (or to a wire).

Hello
I dug deeper in my components drawer and found the caps in the attached picture.
From left to right :
Wima which will be difficult to use given the arrangement of the printed circuit board
Another film cap. Looks to me to be the same technology as the Wima because they share the same size. But easier to use.
The little Murata I spoke about. It is a ceramic cap. I bought them a while ago to repair a mechanically damaged device. Was sold by multiple of ten...
A little tantalum also sold by multiple of ten.
And not in the picture, the aluminum electrolytic Luxman used in the first place.
I've enough of each to replace all the 3.3µF caps in the circuit.
Which one would e the best to use ?
Thanks a lot for your help !

I've found the Farnell reference on the invoice. Enclosed is the datasheet.
What do you think ?
