I just picked up a Luxman A522. Anybody know what tonearm the armboard is drilled for? It is essentially a copy of the Rega P3 and the previous owner installed a new arm board and fitted a Rega RB250 onto it. I will probably use the Rega tonearm for a Thorens project, but I'm thinking of restoring this thing to something like it's original condition. The original armboard is a beautiful bright blue with a large aluminum Luxman nameplate, but unfortunately the hole is drilled at a distance that is far to close to suit the Rega. There is practically nothing online about this TT. Anybody have experience with it, or know what tonearm it was initially packaged with?
In Australia they seem to all have a Grace 707 which has the same effective length as Rega. I have one with a noisy motor. Started to fix it but eventually just used the arm on another TT. It appears to be a parts bin special which I read somewhere was built in Adelaide, Australia for Luxman. The sub platter is bigger than the Rega's and might even be from Project.

Much appreciated, kffern. The Grace and Rega arms both have to be mounted 222mm from the spindle so it's unusual my arm board is drilled differently. I guess it's possible someone didn't know what they were doing and drilled it incorrectly...I have a Rega P3 and the Luxman is similar in a lot of ways. There are some subtle differences like the subplatter you mentioned and it seems the motor pulley (which is metal not plastic) is a bit farther from the center spindle. There is also some sort of choke(?) mounted underneath with what appears to be ground wires running to it from the RCA jacks. Strange. The table looks like it has potential, though for the cost of a Grace 707, I think my effort (and $$$) might be better spent elsewhere. Still, I'll hang onto it for a while to see if any tonearms float my way. Thanks for the info.
I disconnected the choke (inductor?) to fit the rega motor and lost the wiring diagram.
if you ever take a look I'd appreciate the wiring diagram.

I bought a second hand Rega bearing and subplatter and a premotec motor and got it going but wasn't too imprressed. The original 500 rpm motor was a bit noisy but i liked the bearing and subplatter over the Rega.
It does look nice though. I bought it years ago mainly for the Grace arm.

Yeah, I picked mine up for the Rega 250 arm, but was surprised at the Luxman's build quality. It has a metal pulley unlike the plastic one on Rega's P1-P3 and the inductor which I'm curious about. It's also definitely heavier. If I get it up and going, I'll let you know how it compares to my P3 (though I expect the RB 300 arm on the P3 will give it an edge).
