Low & chest bass

So i need boyh and loud.I own DD-18 and i need louder, but i can't buy several DD-18 because they are so expencive. Now i have sell DD and thinking to make my own woofer or Buy SVS 2 x PB12Plus 2.Any good advicer how i can make real loud woofer whith less money.

Jim you're funny, he's not satisfied by a Velodyne DD-18, a servo-controlled subwoofer with 8 band equalizer, frequency response: 14-120Hz, ±3dB, 1250W RMS class D (3000W peak) worth 4999$ !!!

The DD-18 measures almost 2' on a side and weighs 123 lbs. The cabinet is made of ¾"-thick MDF, and the unoccupied internal volume is just under three cubic feet. Internal bracing, silicon latex caulking, and corner blocks are added after the enclosure is sealed with epoxy to prevent air leaks, which weaken acoustic output. The DD-18 sits on four acoustically isolated feet of ¼" milled aluminum.

And you're recommanding budget stuff ???

At least recommend him SEVERAL Tuba 36 !!!

make72,

im kinda in the same boat as you. im a bass-head. i currently use dual HGS15x's (a bit more output than a single DD-18). i could use more. really, building a couple dual 15 or dual 18 towers is the best way to go.

you wont find anything commercial for cheaper. i just doubt SVS for some reason. everyone talks about output, but the people who talk about it being clean have always upgraded from a $200 junk subwoofer, so i doubt their exposure to a great sub. they might be great, but i doubt a pair of those SVS's will be significantly better than your DD-18. maybe go dual 15's?

there are options for more money, but only about twice as much really. a multiple-driver sub array would be the ticket. couple that with a crown amp or two, and you should be set. you will of course lose the parametric eq though.

Maybe i'm grazy but my opinion DD-18 is nowhere near worth 5000$ for it performance or it's too good quality for me.SVS PB12-Ultra/2 is good quality and about 6dB louder every fr, but i sell it because i had little magnetic problem.

i maid buy these 2 x SVS PB12-Plus/2 these output is same as Ultra model little more hd ,but it's none hearable what i have read.
SVS PB12-Ultra/2 and i made some measurements with RadioShack spl meter(analog).
Subwoofer is placed in corner and measure was 3meters distance.
I use 25Hz tune to get maxim pressures and subsonic filter is 25Hz.

As i say DD-18 lose about 6dB every fr so it's(SVS) better bang for the buck and maid be enough.

SVS is very good, probably even better than Velodyne, but hey 2 SVS PB12 Plus 2 won't be significantly better than your Velodyne.

You are now at a point that you should really build it yourself.

Depending on how much space you have, I would recommend several Ascendant Audio Avalanche 18. You have a budget around what? 3000$?

3x Avalanche 18 = 1200$
3x PartsExpress 1000W amplifiers with Parametric EQ = 1200$
200-300$ for the cabinet
300-400$ for anything else you might want.

make72,

you have your sub in the wrong location. i have measured 100dB+ through my subs from 20hz - 120hz. ive seen much higher measurements on that sub that what you are showing.

is it new? they take about 100 hours to loosen up. also, if you have the servo control on 10, it will limit the bass quite a bit. turn it to 3 or so in the menu. but i would try placing it differently. i get a TON more bass than you do.

Those numers was 3meter away and they are SVS PB12-Ultra/2 results DD-18 is about 6dB quieter even servo was 1. 20Hz and 100Hz was nearly the same both subs.Others fr:s winner was SVS:s (Velo is one year old)PS my open air area is about 175m3 i think it's 6000ft3

You sound like a canidate for the parthenon to me! It's just ourageous to think that someone would spend $5000 on a SINGLE subwoofer, but if you're gonna go, go all out. For your 3 grand budget.... perhaps a few avalanche18's (four seems like a good amount to me) in an IB with a little under the RMS power to each sub. I would imagine extension at least 10hz. With some EQ im sure you could get usable response down lower...

Do you think that Adire could fit a Parthenon in a 175L box?

Anyway, that's what I would do make72 with ~175L per box.

1x Avalanche 15" per box tuned to 16 Hz with a PartExpress 1000W amplifier.
About 700$ per box in parts.
113,5 dB at 20 Hz without room gain, if you put it in the corner and with room gain, then about 123,5 dB at 20 Hz.
If you build two boxes, you gain 6 dB, so around 129,5 dB at 20 Hz.

You could do a bit more with a Adire Audio Tumult in the same box, but then you would need a pro amplifier to output 1600W in 4 ohms. It would give you around 2 dB more at each frequency and better extension under 20 Hz. It would cost 200$ more to get a Tumult versus a Avalanche 15".
