Looking for an analogue to digital converter circuit

I have been looking for a 16 Bit analogue to digital circuit to build. But I just can't find anything anywhere that I can copy or modify. I have seen some cheap A to D converters on ebay, and I bought a few to see which chip they used. But each one of them has the detail on the chip scraped off. So I am no further than when I started.
I want to try to build an ADC to connect my cassette player to my DAC. So I am asking the DIYAudio community out there is anyone has a starting point for me, or even an idea of the chip in those cheap ebay ADC.

By the way, Trenz Electronic sells cheap audio converter boards from Digilent and they have the converter type numbers on their website:

Pmod I2S2: Stereo Audio Input and Output | Peripheral Modules | Digilent | Products | Trenz Electronic GmbH Online Shop (EN)

"The Digilent Pmod I2S2 features a Cirrus CS5343 Multi-Bit Audio A/D Converter and a Cirrus CS4344 Stereo D/A Converter, each connected to 3.5mm Audio Jacks. These circuits allow a system board to transmit and receive stereo audio signals via the I2S protocol. The Pmod I2S2 supports 24-bit resolution per channel at input sample rates up to 108KHz."
