Long cable query

Hi All
Have run a ten metre cable from my Denon 3808 to the sub. Also a straight stereo pre out to a power amp again through ten metres of cable.
I wish to put a switched attenuator in the sub line.Would the switched attenuator be better at the output of the Denon or next to the amp?
I would rather it next to the Denon. If that is the case would i need to add a line driver after the switched attenuator.Sorry but old boy newbie.
Thanks for any help.Amp input impedance is 33K

Thanks Richie00boy
It did have. Its a Paradigm PS1000 I think. But the internal amp was so naff I bypassed it.
Just drilled two holes for 2 banana plug sockets and swapped cables from amp output to Banana spades.
Miles better on a bridged Rotel RB981.
Maybe I should just try and see if any difference.

If you want to attenuate the signal from a long cable then generally best to put the attenuator at the end of the cable, not the beginning. Two reasons for this:
- attenuate any noise pickup as well as signal
- avoid driving the cable with a higher impedance than the driving end output

Under normal domestic conditions the difference might not be very big, so do whichever is more convenient.

Cheers all for the help. The Rotel is a power amp only. The volume control on the sub was fine its just that it sounded very dull.
Ss if it was only playing one note.
So I disconnected the internal sub amp and am driving it with the Rotel now.
Sounds a lot better and integrates with the rest of the system better
I will see if I can get it as close to the rotel as possible
