Does anyone have any LM386 chip projects to share?
I built the Smash Drive pedal some time ago, and it has to be one of my favorite overdrives I've heard to date.
I'm currently toying around with some LM386 circuits and curious as to others designs based on this chip.
Has anyone built it with it's full 200x gain?
I thought I was getting full gain by using a 50 k pot in between pins 1 and 8, from what I've been reading I was actually only varying the gain between 1 and 20 x.
Curious as to how it sounds at a gain of 200.....

I would think that at 200x the guitar signal would be amplified so its amplitutde wants to be way beyond the rails, so the result will be basically square waves. I would expect it to lose all nuance. Try it an d see what happens.
I've tried it when using the amps in bridged configuration through a audio transformer..... doesn't sound too pretty but
just wanted to add it is an easy mod to do though what on .1u cap between pins 1 and 8?
though I am curious when using a resistor between 1 and 8 how do you know what gain you are achieving with this amp?
and are there any other cheap power amps like this that can be used for portable situations with maybe a little more then what 1 watt?

Several of the Frantone pedals are based on the LM386. The Peach Fuzz has two of them in series for a distortion sound, but was a little too buzzy/dark sounding for my tastes.
