Linn Classik Movie Di

I was looking at your posts on pinkfishmedia so far no schematic .

I have seen mosfets blown in SMPS and SMD large wattage resistors burnt out but as SMPS,s aren't my power supply of choice maybe somebody here will provide more information.

Looks a good engineers steel ruler in your first picture .

Thanks Duncan - as you will appreciate trying to proceed with no circuit diagram/schematic puts anyone at a great disadvantage.

I'm not a fan of cross-Forum Posting but needs must on occasion?

This SMPS has four open-drain MOSFETs (20N60S5) which are probably 'gubbed'! There is some scorching on the metal enclosure/sleeve but that seems to be under the ETD-39 transformer - can't find a data sheet for that either (8+4 pin) so it's not been a great start!

Glad you liked my steel ruler which is frequently used with a scalpel on various materials.

No problem with me on cross-Forum Posting as it actually helps in gathering information and in any case you are far from the only one .

Yes Linn moved from Castlemilk to a "posher " area , I took a great interest in Linn and Ivor he is one of the best self promoters , no harm in that got good write ups from some UK "golden ears " like Ivan Gold who visited the Music Room that used to be in St.Vincent St.

A flat I owned was not far from there.

If you don't have a semiconductor tester a Fet/Mosfet tester is easily built but open drains are certainly not right.

Hi Duncan - thanks for your continued interest and support.

Some of the larger components are easily measured as they have some form of ID but then we get to the ETD-39 transformer where I can't find a datasheet for this 8+4 pin configuration? Unless I know the windings I can't check?

Also the 20N60S5 FETs have me puzzled as only the two outer legs are connected leaving the central leg (Drain?) floating - never seen that before so don't know how to check - see attached image.

Linn SMPS

So progress with this Linn Classik Movie Di has completely stopped as I am unable to source:-

1. A replacement SMPS
2. A circuit diagram/schematic
3. Details of the outputs from the SMPS to the Amp board?

Can anyone help with any of these options - thanks in advance!

Linn was was ever thus Donald , although not related directly to your problem I have found a website where at least some Linn schematics/parts/advice is given on various Linn equipment -dated around 2000.

It is significant that Linn advises -quote- "their circuits are not easy to understand and repair and require specialized equipment to do so " -end quote -

Quick update - I have obtained a Linn Miniline Universal PSU to play with. Only problem (challenge!) is that this PSU has a ten-pin output adapter while the Classik Movie Di has a four-pin input adapter! 🙂

Any pointers on a possible way forward would be most welcome.
