Can these cheap 12v lighting units be used for heater filaments?
20-50watts at 12v apparently.
Or will they create huge amounts of noise because of the high frequency?

I have successfully been using battery charger transformers for a SET amp for several years, now, both as filament and B+ voltage (by reversing the transformer 12 to 230v)
Fred Nachbaur also recommended using wall-wart transformers in his designs.
Just make sure they are isolating transformers.
